Improvements at Haymarket

The area around the Haymarket is one of the busiest pedestrian areas in the city, with thousands of people walking through there every day.

We made some temporary changes there to create more space for people on foot, make it easier and safer to cross the road and simplify the road layout.

We used temporary materials so that we could look at how the new layout was working before we made any permanent changes.

We’ve found that the layout has worked well but some small changes are needed.

The final designs for the area will include some changes to the crossing between Northumberland Street and Barras Bridge.

We hope to put in place the final road layout later this year.
