The Right to Manage
Council Tenants with a Secure Tenancy have the Right to Manage. This means they have the right to set up a Tenant Management Organisation (TMO).
TMOs are how Council tenants can take on collective responsibility for managing their homes. TMOs can take different forms and sizes, from managing a handful of properties to managing large estates.
The services managed by the TMO might include day-to-day repairs, allocations and lettings, tenancy management, cleaning and caretaking, and rent collection. The TMO will receive funding from the Council to deliver these services.
If you would like more information about the Right to Manage, please e-mail fairerhousingunit@newcastle.gov.uk

From April 2024 the Regulator of Social Housing will start inspecting Councils and Housing Associations to ensure they comply with Consumer Standards. More information is available here.
