Late Night Levy

What is the Late Night Levy?

It is a requirement that licensed premises authorised to supply alcohol between midnight and 6am will have to pay an annual levy of between £299 and £4,400, depending on their rateable value and whether the premises primarily or exclusively are used to sell alcohol for consumption on the premises.

Are there any exemptions?

The government has set specific criteria for the exemptions.

Are there any reductions?

The council grants a reduction for those premises that apply for the Best Practice Premises Inspection Programme  and succeed in achieving a rating which determines compliance.

The scheme complies with the provisions of regulations 5(1)(a), 5(4) and 2 of The Late Night Levy (Expenses, Exemptions and Reductions) Regulations 2012.

Can I vary my authorisation so that I do not have to pay the levy?

Yes. You may wish to vary your authorisation so that the hours during which you supply alcohol end at or before midnight, or vary your authorisation or conditions so that your authorisation falls within an exempt category. You can do this by applying for a minor variation under the Licensing Act 2003 which costs £89.

To avoid the levy, the variation must be granted before due date for the next payment.
