Date: Friday September 13, 2019
Location: Magna Science Adventure Centre, Rotherham
Time: 9.00am – 4.30pm

The Convention of the North and NP11 group of Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs), with support from Government, are bringing together the North’s political, business, community and academic leaders, along with young people’s groups for a one-day event around a common agenda for the future of the North, representing 16 million people.

Hosted on the day by broadcaster Steph McGovern, this will bring together influential bodies such as the N8 research partnership, the People’s Powerhouse, Northern Power Women, leading think-tanks such as IPPR North and the Northern Powerhouse Partnership and young people from across the North to set out their vision for the North’s future, and how current leaders need to work together to achieve it.

Why attend?

The event will be a working convention to debate policy across a number of key themes: skills and education, housing, transport, innovation, trade and investment, and clean growth. These will be brought together into a powerful, unified case to the new Prime Minister and Government for tangible investment in the Northern Powerhouse, putting it at the top of the economic agenda, so that it can fulfil its potentially transformational role in the future of the UK.

Attendees will hear from exciting speakers, such as:

  • Mayors and Leaders representing the North’s towns, cities, and communities, including host Mayor Dan Jarvis and Chair of the Convention Cllr Nick Forbes
  • Northern Powerhouse Minister the Rt Hon Jake Berry MP, along with other senior Ministers from across Government
  • Leading businesses figures including NP11 Chair Roger Marsh OBE and LEP Chairs from across the North
  • Strategic Northern partner organisations

Who should attend?

The event has been created to be accessible and inclusive to the whole of the North with attendees including political, business, community and academic leaders, as well as representatives of young people’s groups who want to send a clear message to the new Prime Minister and Government about the North’s role in the future of the UK.

I would like to attend. How can I sign up and find out more?
