We require a huge variety of families to meet the many different needs presented by the children we place on a daily basis.

You will need lots of physical and emotional energy to foster. Some of the children you look after will come from complex and unsettled backgrounds and will have had unsettled lives.

Prospective foster carers need to acknowledge that parenting these children will require a commitment, which is very different to parenting their own child.

We recognise the importance of placing children with families who reflect their ethnic and cultural origin to help them achieve a positive sense of identity.

We consider all applications equally and fairly, regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, class, marital status or disability. We consider applications if:

• you are at least 21 years of age
• you live within 50 miles of Newcastle
• you are from any ethnic, cultural or religious background
• you already have children
• you don’t have children 
• you are single
• you are part of a couple
• you are lesbian or gay
• you are employed
• you are unemployed
