The man who could have built the Forth Bridge - John Dixon, book launch with Ian Pearce, City Library, Tuesday 28 May, 2.30pm, Room 1&2 Level 2
John Dixon was one of the generation of British contractors who built railways, bridges and other civil engineering works around the world.  Today most are forgotten, a fate entirely undeserved by the man who erected Cleopatra's Needle on the Thamses Embankment and who built the first railway in China.  Had his tender for the construction of the Forth Railway Bridge been accepted history may have treated him differently, meet Ian Pearce and have a coffee.
