Cobbled Streets and Penny Sweets, with Local author and historian Yvonne Young.  Join Yvonne Young to share memories of a Geordie Childhood, from her new book Cobbled Streets and Penny Sweets. Born in 1950s Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Yvonne Young's childhood was spent at the heart of the city's industry. With her grandfather working as a ship painter, her Uncle Tom helping to build them, and neighbours working for the local armaments factory, the shipyards and factories were her community's lifeblood. Cobbled Streets and Penny Sweets is an affectionate, at times hard-hitting, and beautifully evocative portrait of life in a city that has changed beyond recognition. Above all, it is a story of family, friendship, and getting through the hard times with a healthy dose of Geordie humour. To book visit Eventbrite.

Tuesday 8 October and Thursday 10 October 12:00 to 12:50pm
Yoga Sessions - In reality, if you can breathe, you can practice yoga - and anyone able to get on and off the floor in reasonable comfort can participate in our friendly all levels classes. It consists of gentle stretching, strengthening, and balancing exercises, done slowly, with moment-to-moment awareness of breathing and of the sensations that arise as you put your body into various configurations known as “postures.” The all levels class will cover the following. Basic yoga asanas (postures) covering some of the most common yoga poses. Pranayama (breathing techniques).Meditation and Relaxation.
We will be doing the yoga slowly, as a moment by moment mindful exploration of the body, with a step by step approach taken getting in and out of a variety of yoga postures safely. The classes are suitable for people completely new to yoga and those who would like to learn a bit more about the foundations of each pose, sometimes not possible in a fast-paced class. Mats and props (blocks, straps) will be provided. Loose comfortable clothing is recommended. Book places via Eventbrite.
