Dead animals

Report a dead animal

If there is an dead animal in a public place, you can request that we remove it. We will aim to pick it up within two working days.

We do not remove dead animals from gardens or private property.

When making a report please tell us:

  • the location
  • the type of animal
  • what colour it is
  • if you think it is safe to remove the animal
  • any other information you think may be useful

To tell us about a dead animal please:

Check if we have picked up your pet

When we collect dead animals they are taken to a site in Byker, which is run by Suez.

They have a microchip scanner and check any dead cats or dogs they receive to see if they have owner information.

If you want to check if one of the animals we have picked up was your pet please email Suez.

If one of the animals was your pet you will be able to make arrangements with Suez as to next steps.

If you do not want to bury a dead pet in your garden you should contact a local vets or pet cemetery.
