Business rates data protection

The information held on your account by Newcastle City Council's Revenues and Benefit Service will be used for administering and collecting National Non-Domestic rates (business rates).

Your information may also be passed to other Newcastle City Council departments where appropriate, to enable the council to effectively carry out the functions and services it is required to provide by law.

The council must protect the public money it handles, and for this purpose we may pass your information to other parties who may use the information to detect and prevent crime and fraud.

These include:

  • External agencies (such as the Police, HM Revenue and Customs and HM Inland Revenue).
  • Government departments (such as Department for Work and Pensions and the Child Support Agency).
  • Private sector companies (such as debt collection agencies, system contingency bureau and data matching services).
  • Other organisations responsible for auditing or administering public money (such as the Audit Commission).
