If you have the authority to authorise Direct Debit please phone the Business rates team on 0191 278 7878 between 8am and 6pm Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and 8am to 4.30pm on Friday. Our phone lines are closed on Wednesday. Or print off the application form below and send it to us at

To assist us to allocate your payment and avoid the possibility of a reminder, please quote your full Business rates reference number, which can be found on the top left of your bill. It begins with 69 or 70.
You must quote all 10 digits when making payment. Please note the last two digits represent the financial year so these will change for each new financial year.
You can set up a standing order with your bank. They will give you a form to fill in indicating the amount to be paid each month.
Payment remittance advice notes should be sent either by:
Fax number: 0191 277 4762 or
Email address: firstname.lastname@example.org
You must instruct your bank 10 days before payment is due.
