Allocations and Lettings Policy

Allocations and Lettings Policy

Newcastle City Council has amended its Allocation and Lettings Policy which comes into effect from 1 April 2017.

This policy sets out how council homes and a significant proportion of housing association homes are allocated in Newcastle with the overall aims of:

  • Meeting housing need
  • Making best use of available resources
  • Contributing to sustainable and mixed communities
  • Balancing competing demands
  • Ensuring equitable treatment across all customer groups

The policy is a statutory function under the 1996 Housing Act, Part 6,  the responsibility for which rests with the Council's Fairer Housing Unit, and delivered by Your Homes Newcastle through a sub-regional partnership 'Tyne and Wear Homes'.

This partnership includes local authorities, housing associations and private landlords operating in Newcastle, Gateshead, North Tyneside and South Tyneside.
