Newcastle City Council are looking to recruit an additional Landscape Architect to join an award-winning multi-disciplinary Landscape and Ecology team engaged on a wide variety of interesting projects. Our team includes ecologists and the city’s tree officer. Based in the planning department we work alongside planners, urban and highway designers on all aspects of public realm improvement. While most of our work is for internal clients we also undertake projects for other authorities and organisations working on public projects.

You will either have some experience working as a Landscape Architect in a design or planning office or have recently qualified at degree or diploma level and be working towards chartered status. In this case you will be given support on your path to becoming chartered and be involved in a wide range of projects that will give you a good base of experience.

Working alongside other design professionals and responsible to the Team Leader, your experience and skills in all aspects of landscape design and planning will help us deliver professional services. Newcastle Council is currently developing a recovery response to Covid19 and we expect that well designed public spaces and the provision of a sustainable green infrastructure will be central to this recovery plan. Additional we are working with other colleagues to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Duties will include, but are not limited to, the preparation of feasibility studies and design options for sites ranging from small school playgrounds to multi-sport recreational facilities, detailed design and specification including planting design and maintenance schedules, project management and delivery through to completion on site. Landscape and Ecology also provide support to the planning team within the City Council particularly on development and tree issues.

If you have a positive team working approach to service delivery and are keen to work alongside in-house designers and construction teams this is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills and contribute to the ongoing success of the organisation.
