Virtual School for Looked After Children

Fixed term for 12 months

The Virtual School (VS) provides educational support to Newcastle’s Looked After Children (LAC) in order to improve their educational outcomes through challenge and support to all those working with our children.

We are seeking to appoint a LAC Educational Achievement Worker (EAW) to join an existing team of EAWs to enable us to continue to develop the service, improve service quality, and ultimately support and improve the best outcomes for our LAC. You will be based at Westgate Community College and be required to work with schools, social workers, residential workers, other services such as SEN, Connexions, Attendance and Admissions, carers as well as individual LAC. An EAW manages a caseload of LAC and takes a leading role in the Personal Education Plan (PEP) process to support their education.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated, resourceful and possess very good communication skills. You will need to be able to establish very positive working relationships across a range of agencies, have the ability to chair focused meetings and be committed to helping LAC fulfill their educational potential.

We are committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. This post is working in regulated activity. If you are successful we will undertake additional recruitment checks which will include a check to see if you have had any criminal convictions, a check of police information and we will check the relevant barred list(s). It is a criminal offence for a barred individual to apply for a job in regulated activity.

For an informal discussion, please contact Karl Harms on 0191 277 4543.

Apply online at www.northeastjobs.org.uk.

As this post involves working with children, vulnerable adults or dealing with sensitive information, written references will be taken up and made available to interviewers before the final selection stage; even if you indicate otherwise.
