Do you want to make a positive difference to the lives of some of the most vulnerable young people? Are you motivated to provide high quality care and support to young people, especially those with the most complex and challenging needs? Do you want an employer who will support you to have the career that is right for you?

If this is you - then Newcastle City Council is the place for you!

We are looking for an experienced, dynamic and highly motivated manager to join our residential services, managing a multi building children’s home. This posts is integral to our children’s homes which provide high quality care and support to our most vulnerable young people, who have often experienced multiple placement breakdowns due to complex needs and behaviours. We aim to work with these young people to provide the consistency and stability they need, enabling them to stay safely in Newcastle.

To succeed as the Manager / Officer in charge you must have an excellent understanding of the needs of young people and families and be committed to making a lasting difference to their lives.

You will be a confident and creative person whose mentoring and leadership skills will enable the young people you are caring for to have positive experiences, grow, develop and thrive. You will understand the impact that complex needs such as trauma, mental health difficulties and neurodevelopmental disorders, can have on young people and be able to lead and support your staff team to work positively and effectively, dealing with verbal and physical aggression, using a trauma informed approach.

You will be experienced at building a resilient and successful team through reflective supervision and skilful leadership, ensuring the safety of young people, staff and the general public. This is a busy role so outstanding organisational skills, an ability to maintain high quality case records and the ability to work collaboratively with other professionals, including social workers, CAMHS services and the police, are all essential.

As Manager/Officer in Charge you will be required to register with Ofsted as the Registered Manager of a multi building children’s home and will be responsible for ensuring that the home is ready for inspection at all times. You may also be required to cover shifts including occasional sleep ins.
