Children's Social Care

Family Time Service, Long Term Social Work Service

Are you committed to providing excellent services to vulnerable children and families? Do you want an employer who will support you to have the career that is right for you? If this is you - then Newcastle City Council is the place for you!

We are looking for Social Care Officers to work within our Family Time Service. In Newcastle we are very proud of our Family Time Service which works hard to support children and their families to spend quality and meaningful time together. We have a passionate, dynamic and enthusiastic workforce who are committed to supporting children and young people to feel safe, happy and healthy. We respect everyone as equally valued members of our community by listening to their views to help shape our service. Are you the right person to help us to provide a brighter future for our children?

If you want to develop and grow your skillset now is the time to join us! Through our innovative work as part of the DFE’s Strengthening Families Protecting Children programme (read about our work with the DfE and Leeds City Council) we are implementing the Family Valued approach across our service and city to transform how we work with children, families and partners. Family Valued is a relational and restorative approach to services, focussing on strength and values.

As a Social Care Officer, you will be required to help support and promote supervised Family Time sessions between children and their parents and/or immediate family members in Newcastle who are receiving services from Newcastle Children’s Social Care. The role can involve working with emotional, challenging and vulnerable young people and their families. You will be responsible for transporting children to and from their Family Time sessions and liaising with foster carer’s, families and schools.

Family Time sessions will be observed and recorded with advice and guidance offered. You will contribute to providing an outstanding Family Time service, sharing information with Social Workers who are undertaking assessments of families and you will also be responsible for providing families with advice and guidance to ensure the time they spend together is safe, fun and enjoyable.

You will receive:

• A dedicated 5-day induction

• Generous annual leave in addition to Bank Holidays with the ability to buy additional leave annually

• A range of flexible working options

• A generous Flexi Scheme

• Access to wellbeing initiatives

• Access to a generous, defined benefit pension scheme

• Access to home electronics and car leasing schemes

Do you think you have what it takes to join our team of excellent and dedicated professionals? Apply online at www.northeastjobs.org.uk, select 'Apply Now' and complete our online application form.

If you want to find out more about the role you can speak with the manager of our Family Time Service, Lindsey Allen - email Lindsey at lindsey.allen@newcastle.gov.uk to arrange.

We are committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. This post is working in regulated activity. If you are successful, we will undertake additional recruitment checks which will include a check to see if you have had any criminal convictions, a check of police information and we will check the barred list(s). It is a criminal offence for a barred individual to apply for a job in regulated activity.

As this post involves working with children, vulnerable adults or dealing with sensitive information, written references will be taken up and made available to interviewers before the final selection stage; even if you indicate otherwise.
