An allowance can be paid to independent members/persons

Could you provide specialist expert advice to our elected members? Newcastle City Council currently has several opportunities for individuals with an open and independent perspective to support our elected members. The work will be challenging and provides a real opportunity for you to make an active contribution to the governance of Newcastle City Council.

The following vacancies are available:

<u>Independent Remuneration Panel</u> - the Independent Remuneration Panel makes recommendations to the Council on its Members&rsquo; Allowances Scheme and the nature and level of allowances to be paid to City Councillors and any cooptees. The Council must have regard to these recommendations when reviewing or amending its Scheme.

<u>Independent Persons</u> - The Independent Persons will Support the Monitoring Officer and Standards Committee. The Council has a duty under the Localism Act 2011 to promote and maintain high standards of conduct for its elected and co-opted members.

<u>Allowance</u>

An allowance can be paid to independent members/persons, which will vary depending on the committee/panel and the role undertaken.

<u>Criteria</u>

Existing post holders are eligible to be reappointed.
