Fans heading to St James’ Park for Newcastle United matches are being informed of additional road and pedestrian access closures as a result of highways works.
From Wednesday 19 October, when the Magpies host Everton in the Premier League, Strawberry Lane between the junctions with Gallowgate and Strawberry Place will be closed to pedestrians. Supporters making their way to and from the ground are being advised to alter their journeys to avoid Strawberry Lane, though pedestrian access along Strawberry Place will be unaffected.
In addition to the usual matchday road closures around the stadium, as fans leave at the end of the match, Leazes Park Road between Percy Street and junction with Strawberry Place will also be closed to vehicle traffic, while metered parking bays along this section of road will also be suspended from 5pm to provide a clearer path in the interest of safety and comfort of pedestrians.
These measures will continue to be put in place on St James’ Park matchdays until Christmas when highways works are expected to be complete.
