Household Support Hardship

We have limited funding from the UK Government to help residents with household bills who are suffering from significant financial difficulty.
Full details of how the funding is being used can be found on the Household Support Fund webpage.

Below is information on how to apply for support from the Household Support Fund Hardship element:

Only one payment will be made per household. The amount will be £200, or £300 if you receive Child Benefit for someone living in your household

Eligibility

To be eligible for a one-off payment from the Household Support Fund (HSF) you must:

  • be a resident in Newcastle upon Tyne, and
  • be the main householder (i.e.  responsible for the household bills), and
  • have a deficit in your budget (i.e.  have more money going out than coming in), and
  • seek advice from one of our Advice Compact partners to address the issues causing the deficit in budget.

If you meet the above criteria, a member of our Advice Compact can submit a referral to the fund for you. Residents cannot self-refer.

This funding is limited.

The agencies will need to assess whether you’re eligible for this payment.  This will involve completing an income and expenditure assessment with you.

You can seek budgeting advice and receive a referral to the fund (if eligible) from the following Advice Compact partners, please contact an agency that is most suitable to your budgeting needs:

What to bring to your appointment

To help you it will be useful to bring:

  • details of your income – for example, wage slips, benefit letters or bank statements
  • a bank statement or details of your household expenditure - including how much you spend on food, transport, phone and energy bills

If you haven't got everything, don't worry - bring as much as you can find.

If you need help with housing, debt or benefits you may also want to bring the following with you as well:

  • details of all those that you owe money to and how much - bring the latest statements and demands for payment
  • copies of any court papers
  • your tenancy agreement and any letters from your landlord - if you're renting
  • your mortgage details - if you have a mortgage
  • any letters from government departments, such as the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), for example, Jobcentre Plus, Pension Service, or your local council
  • any decision letters that you're not happy with
  • your national insurance number
