Byelaws - Thornton Street - Prohibition of Skateboarding etc
Byelaws made under section 235 of the Local Government Act 1972 by the Council of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne for the good rule and government of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne and for the prevention and suppression of nuisances.
Interpretation
1. In these byelaws:
"the designated area” means Part of Thornton Street, Newcastle upon Tyne comprising the area immediately to the south of Westgate Road, and to the north of Waterloo Street and immediately adjoined to the east by Thornton House and to the west by the frontage of the building line, shown hatched black on the attached plan.
"self-propelled vehicle" means a vehicle other than a cycle, wheelchair or pram which is propelled by the weight or force of one or more persons skating, sliding or riding on the vehicle or by one or more other persons pulling or pushing the vehicle.
Application
2. This byelaw applies to the designated area.
Skateboarding, etc
3. No person shall skate, slide or ride on rollers, skateboards or other self-propelled vehicles in the designated area except where authorised to do so by the owner of the land.
Penalty
4. Any person offending against byelaw 3 shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding level 2 on the standard scale.

The foregoing byelaws are hereby confirmed by the First Secretary of State and shall come into operation one calendar month after the date of confirmation.
