We often receive requests to light up Newcastle Civic Centre, the Tyne Bridge and other council owned buildings.
To ensure that they are dealt with in a consistent and fair manner we offer advice on the types of requests we will consider and how to make them.
Requests we will consider
Requests to light up a building should be to:
- raise awareness of charities directly supported by the council
- raise awareness of a charitable cause with a significant connection to the city
- mark events directly organised by us or those taking place at the Civic Centre
- mark events not directly organised by us but considered of major importance to the city
- reflect a major national or international event
Requests we will reject
Lighting up a landmark must not be used to advertise or promote products, other than when linked to the hosting of a major event and must not be used to promote a political party or campaign.
