Improvements to Stamfordham Road/West Denton Way

The improvements include installing new pedestrian crossing points and upgrades to public transport facilities.

Stamfordham Road/West Denton Way – Highway Improvements – Resurfacing

Our contractor – Raintons – has advised that works will take place on:

• Monday 13^th March 2023, between 0930 – 1530. Road closure on West Denton Way for planing works.
• Tuesday 14^th March 2023, between 0930 – 1530. Road closure on West Denton Way for resurfacing.
• Wednesday 15^th March 2023, between 0930 – 1530. Road closure on Stamfordham Road for resurfacing.
• Thursday 16^th March 2023, between 0930 – 1530. Road closure on West Denton Way for road markings (morning). Road closure on Stamfordham Road for road markings (once completed on West Denton Way).

A diversion route for vehicles will be signed using temporary road signs. We are working with Bus Operators in this area to minimise disruption to services whilst these works are carried out.

Resurfacing works at West Denton Way/ Stamfordham Road, affecting services 6, 7, 11, 62, 63, 71, 72, 87 

From Monday 13 March 2023, there will be some temporary diversions to bus services in order to allow the completion of the works at West Denton Way/ Stamfordham Road.  Please go here to find out more information 

Temporary traffic management will be in place to ensure the works can be carried out safely.

The dates above are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen circumstances. Should this be the case, works will be carried out as soon as possible and updates will be posted on this webpage.

Why are these improvements needed?

In 2015, an independent traffic study was carried out to assess the impact of housing developments on Newcastle’s roads. To ensure that the traffic generated by new housing developments is managed, improvements were recommended at the Stamfordham Road/West Denton Way junction. Since this time, we have developed a scheme and secured funding for delivery.

What is the timescale for the works?

The works are programmed to start in January 2023, finishing in Spring 2023, subject to weather conditions. This page will be updated with any changes.
