Support for children with Special Education Needs or a Disability and Local Offer

Support for children with Special Education Needs or a Disability and Local Offer

If your child has special education needs or a disability (SEND) we want to help make sure you receive the right support to take up an early years or childcare place in Newcastle.

Early years, childcare providers and schools must not discriminate against your child if they are disabled and must make reasonable adjustments to make sure they have the same opportunity as other children.

All providers who offer free early education and childcare places must meet the requirements in the SEND Code of Practice including responsibility quickly to emerging needs, information and support, inclusive practice and better coordination across services.

There is some additional support for children with SEND to access an early years or childcare place.

This includes:

What other support is available and how can I get more information and help:

Visit Newcastle’s Local Offer where you will find information, advice and support available locally for children and young people with SEND and their families. We’ve put all of this information together in one place to make it easier to find.  Here you can also find places to go and fun things to do.

Also you may want to make sure you are applying for all benefits that might support your child and childcare costs
