Public Spaces Protection Order

Public Spaces Protection Order

On 15 June 2020, the Council's Cabinet approved the making of a three-year Public Spaces Protection Order under Part 4, Section 59 of The Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014.

The effect of which will be to create offences in relation to:

  1. The consumption of alcohol in a public place
  2. Failing to remove dog faeces
  3. Failing to keep dogs on leads

Failure to comply would be an offence and may result in prosecution or the issue of a fixed penalty notice.

The order applies to specified restricted areas within the City of Newcastle upon Tyne. It replaces the previous Public Spaces Protection Order and the Council’s Designated Public Place Orders and Dog Control Orders.

Full details of the order and plans of the restricted areas are available to view here.
