St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, energetic and empathetic full time Head of Year. The successful applicant will blend teaching expertise and experience with pastoral skills and a real delight in nurturing and developing teenagers.

The Head of Year is responsible to the Headmaster as part of the team of five Heads of Year across the 11-16 age range but works most closely on a daily basis with the allocated member of the leadership team as direct line manager. A significant part of the role of Head of Year at St. Cuthbert’s is the breadth of experience it provides in all areas of school life.

The fundamental duty of the Head of Year is that he/she sets the tone and style of the Year group, and is expected to create a caring, nurturing and focused atmosphere, providing pastoral care and support as well as maintaining appropriate standards of mutual respect and community awareness along the way. Being ‘present’ whenever you are on duty is a key feature of success in this role. The successful applicant will demonstrate that he/she genuinely enjoys the company of young people and being part of their adolescent journey to young adulthood. The Year group will be a place of purposeful hard work but also a great deal of fun and laughter. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter with a passionate commitment to Catholic Education and the highest quality of pastoral care.

This is an opportunity to lead and shape a year group in an all-boys Catholic School that has enjoyed a reputation as a centre of educational excellence for over one hundred years. We welcome applications from both experienced leaders and outstanding teachers ready for the challenges of a leadership post.
