We are currently looking to recruit a permanent H&S Officer. The post holder will work as part of a friendly team in the busy Corporate H&S function covering operational and strategic H&S and Learning & Development.

The post offers flexible and hybrid working, from home and in the office, based at the Civic Centre, Newcastle. The post will involve travel to and from sites typically within the Newcastle area. Less than full time hours will be considered.

The Council has a large building portfolio and delivers services to customers across a wide variety and diverse range of sectors, including facilities management, social care, education, arts and culture, waste management, highways, construction and repairs and maintenance.

The successful candidate will be involved in delivering a wide range of H&S functions including: the review of corporate policies & codes, development and review of risk assessments and H&S website content, training design and delivery, development and delivery of targeted H&S audits/inspections and initiatives and provision of H&S advice to managers in a variety of risk areas of the business and accident screening and investigations across a range of council service functions.

The successful candidate should have recent experience as a practising health and safety officer/assistant in relevant sectors, for example: general health and safety, facility services, social care, education, waste and/or the highways/construction sector etc. They should hold the NEBOSH Health & Safety Diploma or equivalent qualification. Other desirable qualifications that the successful candidate might hold include a relevant fire safety risk assessment qualification and/or the NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
