We are recruiting a Planning Policy Officer to work in the Planning service.

The Job
The planning department is key to delivering our strategic priorities for our residents and communities. We have a fully functioning and well-resourced planning service that protects the interests of the city, while creating the homes, infrastructure, and environment we need. Planning is central to supporting the economy and to developing plans to promote and expand the economy, in line with our ambitions to become a greener and more sustainable city. The service will develop policies which promote green and sustainable development, working closely with our communities and stakeholders.
As a Planning Officer, you will lead on topic areas connected to planning policy. You work will be pivotal in helping to deliver the Local Plan. In taking on this role, you will make an important and positive contribution to the development of our city, supporting the delivery of our corporate objectives contributing to addressing climate change, poverty, and the cost-of-living crisis.
As the technical expert on planning policy and local planning, you will provide timely advice and guidance not only to your colleagues, but to the councillors and committees. With an eye to the future, you will use your knowledge of future changes in planning to ensure we deliver our services effectively and efficiently to our residents and communities.
The Candidate
You will be a highly motivated and ambitious individual with experience in planning policy and an in-depth knowledge of the legislation and policy guidance relating to local plans.
While it is likely you will currently be working for a local council, we are open to considering applicants from outside the sector, who can demonstrate the transferable skills they have to be successful as well as knowledge of the current trends impacting the sector.
You will be a confident and transparent communicator, with excellent verbal and written skills, and be comfortable engaging with stakeholders, both within and outside the Council.
