*This post attracts a Living Wage supplement. In addition to the hourly rate, this post will receive the Living Wage supplement to bring the hourly rate up to a minimum of £12.00 an hour*

This post is initially based at Monkchester Road Nursery School Site but successful candidates will have a contract for our Federation of schools and may be required to work in other schools within our Federation. Our sister schools in the Federation are in Elswick and Newburn.

The governors of Newcastle Nursery Schools’ Federation invite applications for a permanent Playgroup Assistant. The post requires a minimum Level 2 qualification in child care/education support.

The successful candidate will have experience of working with children aged 2 to 4 years. They will be caring and attentive to children’s individual needs and require the appropriate temperament to work as part of a strong and committed team, ensuring high expectations for all of our children.

Under the support of our Playgroup Room Leaders, successful candidates will take on a key worker role for a small group of children throughout the day. They will create safe, fun and stimulating learning for all children, inside and outdoors.

Applicants require a thorough knowledge of the Early Years Foundation stage and how to apply this creatively, with enthusiasm so that every child meets their full potential. They will need to apply their skills, commitment and initiative to improve children’s learning in all areas of the Early Year’s curriculum. Candidates will benefit from having worked with external agencies to support children with special educational needs and/or challenging behaviour.

We have our own forest school on site and use outdoor learning as a fundamental part of our provision. Candidates must be willing and able to work outdoors for much of their time, in all weathers. We work closely with parents and the wider community so candidates will need suitable knowledge, skills and experience of working with families to support children’s development.

Our Federation is fully committed to safeguarding children and applicants are required to complete several pre-employment checks and other activities that ensure they are safe and suitable to work with our young children. Our safer recruitment procedures include (but are not limited to) DBS checks and the taking up of two references before the interview process commences. One reference must be from the candidate’s current employer.

Interested candidates can download an application pack from our school website: www.monkchesterroad.newcastle.sch.uk or alternatively in person by calling in to the school office.

Please return completed packs by post or by hand. Sorry, but we cannot accept returns by email.
