Newcastle City Council is seeking a determined individual to join our Major Projects team as a Programme Support Officer working on an exciting range of capital investment projects and transformation programmes.

The Council invests around £120 million in capital works annually to develop and improve our Great City. Projects cover a diverse range including housing, schools, leisure facilities, transport infrastructure and projects to address climate change and encourage economic growth.
Our Major Projects team takes on the larger, more complex projects within the capital programme, as well non-capital projects to drive organisational change and improvement.
You will work alongside senior officers and be responsible for a rich variety of tasks within projects and investment programmes, working within multi-disciplinary teams from across the Council alongside external consultants and contractors.
The role includes:

<li>Supporting the management of projects from inception to completion.</li>
<li>Monitoring and reporting progress and expenditure.</li>
<li>Assisting with the preparation of business cases to test and justify proposed projects.</li>
<li>Securing funding, including applications to regional and central government bodies.</li>
<li>Communicating and consulting with stakeholders and interested parties.</li>
</ul>
This role is suited to individuals from a broad range of disciplines and backgrounds, including architectural, civil/ building services engineering, quantity surveying and project management. We are seeking candidates educated to Degree/ Diploma level and the desire to progress; experience is a positive but not essential. Applicants will need strong communication skills, the ability to work as part of a team and under their own initiative, with the drive and determination to make things happen.
This role sits within a small but highly supportive Major Projects team, which is based at the Civic Centre in the heart of the City. Flexible working, a good holiday allowance and a local government pension are part of a competitive package for these roles.
