Newcastle Youth Justice Service are dedicated to a child-first, offender second ethos. We apply a trauma informed and relational approach to practice, promoting ‘working with’ young people and families to achieve positive outcomes. Whilst reducing re-offending is our principle aim this is well balanced with promoting the welfare of children, in addition to increasing public confidence and repairing the harm for those affected by crime.
We are a multi-disciplinary team with a wealth of knowledge and experience - we are seeking motivated, child-centred Social Workers to join our passionate workforce. We are looking for Social Workers who are committed to working with children, young people, and their families in a relational and restorative way. As a generic workforce your workload will include a varied caseload including out of court disposals, court orders, and custody related intervention. You will also be required to cover duty rotas, including acting as Appropriate Adult, scheduled court, and remand court. The latter requires occasional Saturday and Bank Holiday standby cover. Development opportunities within the world of Youth Justice are vast - we will encourage you to be creative and progress your career making social work at Newcastle a profession that is yours to own.
Other benefits to being employed by Newcastle City Council include:
- A dedicated induction
- Generous annual leave in addition to Bank Holidays with the ability to buy additional leave annually
- A generous Flexi Scheme
- Employee Assistance Programme offering confidential advice and support
- Access to a generous, defined benefit pension scheme
Social Workers who have achieved their progression at university will also be considered for the roles.
For more information regarding the role, please contact Team Managers, Joanne Appleby, Sue Gibbons or Helen Redhead on 0191 2777377.
As this post involves working with children, vulnerable adults or dealing with sensitive information, written references will be taken up and made available to interviewers before the final selection stage; even if you indicate otherwise.
We are strongly committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS disclosure and a range of other recruitment checks.
