Application submitted Via Planning Portal, by post or in person at a Customer Service Centre | |
Planning application checked for validity and completeness in accordance with the National and Local Validation checklists ,and appropriate fee within 3 working days. | If the application is not valid, the applicant/agent is contacted for more/amended information. If no response is received within 21 working days the application is returned. |

Confirmation of validation sent to applicant. Notification letters issued to neighbours giving 22 days to make comment. Site and press notices displayed if required. Application uploaded to Public Access website. | |

Case officer conducts site visit within 15 working days. Application assessed by Case Officer with regard to UDP policy, Supplementary Planning Documents and Guidance and response received from consultation. |
If the application is not considered to accord with relevant policy but could be easily altered, amended plans are requested. The applicant is given 14 days to respond. Neighbours re-notified if amendments result in further impact upon neighbours. |

If the application is to be determined at Officer level, the Case Officer submits delegated report with recommendation to Team Manager. Team Manager checks application and confirms decision. |
In accordance with the scheme of delegation set out in the Newcastle Charter, the application may be presented to the Chair and Vice Chair of the Development Control Committee to decide if the application should be referred to Committee or determined at Officer level. |

Application granted consent? There may be conditions that need to be discharged which will often require the submission of further details and for which an additional fee is required. Application refused consent? You can lodge an appeal with the Planning Inspectorate. Your appeal must be made within 12 weeks of the date of decision. |
An application is normally determined within 8 weeks starting from the date the application is valid.
