Walk to school Week 5-9 October 2020

Walk to school Week 5-9 October 2020

We’re celebrating Walk to School Week (5-9 October) and Clean Air Day (8 October) and encouraging people to walk, scoot or cycle to school, rather than travel by car.

#walktoschoolweek

Walking, cycling or scooting to school is a great way to reduce unnecessary journeys by cars, as well as create cleaner, greener and safer neighbourhoods.

As part of this, we are asking people to put forward their suggestions for improving the routes they use – or would like to use – for walking or cycling to school.

To help encourage more walking and cycling on local journeys, we have already installed several low traffic neighbourhoods by closing five small bridges to traffic, to provide safe routes for children walking or cycling to school. You can find out more here and take part in our public consultation which runs until February 2021.

Please tell us any suggestions you may have for improvements you would like to see in your local area to reduce traffic and create safer, cleaner and greener neighbourhoods by emailing us walktoschoolweek@newcastle.gov.uk

Did you know?

Nationally, nearly half of all primary school kids are driven to school – if you swapped the school run for walking, cycling or scooting, just think how much we could reduce traffic by!
