Apply for a Mobile Elevated Work Platform licence
How to apply
If you are planning to work with a Mobile Elevated Working Platform (MEWP) or Cherry Picker on the adopted highway, you will need to apply for a MEWP Licence or a Permit.
The application, submission and payment process for a MEWP licence is entirely online.
You will need to apply for your licence at least 5 working days in advance of your proposed start date.

What we require from you
Within the online application form you may be asked to provide the following:
- Method Statement
- Site location plan
- Proof of Public Liability Insurance of £10 million and Employers Liability of £10 million
- If Traffic Management is required, a sketch of the proposed traffic management, as an applicant you will be expected to provide the necessary pedestrian and vehicular access traffic management through Chapter 8.
Please note you will be required to apply for 1 licence per vehicle.
The licence fee per vehicle is:
- £47.52 for 1 day for 5 locations
- £142.56 for a 5 day licence for 25 locations
- £190.08 for a 7 day licence for 35 locations
What happens after I submit my application?
After submitting your application the Permit Team will begin to review your application.
If your application is successful, you will receive a copy of your approved licence in an email from noreply@symology.co.uk
If we need to discuss any element of your application or require further information, we will contact you directly.
Once I have received my licence
Your approved licence must be displayed on the vehicle at all times.
If you need to amend any details on your licence, you must contact the Permit Team (permits@newcastle.gov.uk)
If you need to extend your current licence, you will need to submit another application to cover the dates you require. Please ensure it is noted within your application, that it is for an extension to a current licence. If your application is successful, you will receive a copy of your approved updated licence in an email from noreply@symology.co.uk. If we need to discuss any element of your application or require further information, we will contact you directly.
Further Information
The responsibility for all health and safety on site rests with the principal of main contractor. This also relates to public safety and to ensure compliance with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER).
