Bikeability / Cycle Training
Bikeability / Cycle Training
We are an accredited Bikeability Cycle Training provider and we deliver National Standard cycle training in Newcastle to both children and adults.
Our range of programmes are listed below:
Bikeability National Standard (children and schools)
National Standard cycle training gives participants practical skills and understanding of safer cycling practices.
Bikeability Level 1
Following on from Learn to Ride (see below), children in Year 4 are taught to ride with confidence and develop cycle skills within the school grounds.
Bikeability Level 2
This National Standard includes on road training. The practical training develops confidence, promotes cycling and improves road safety and is typically delivered to children in Year 5.
Bikeability Level 3
This National Standard Cycle training is on road in more challenging traffic conditions. Practical advanced training to promote cycle and general road safety for older students and adults. This tends to be delivered to pupils from Years 7 onwards.
Bikeability Plus (children and schools)
This is a suite of additional cycling activities and extra training based around the National Bikeability Levels of cycling (Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3).
Bikeability Promotion
The whole community (pupils, parents and carers, staff and visitors) are encouraged to get involved in cycling and understand the benefits of Bikeability. This is best delivered prior to any practical Bikeability training. It can be delivered at an assembly, parents evening, as a practical demonstration or as a promotional campaign.
Balance Bikes (bicycles without pedals)
Practical cycle experience for children in Nursery and Reception. Small bikes without pedals are used which helps children develop their balance skills prior to learning to ride a bicycle.
Learn to Ride (children)
Cycle training for children in Year 3, 4, 5 or 6 who cannot ride without stabilisers, delivered prior to Level 1 and Level 2 Bikeability training. This training can also be delivered to other year groups and adults where necessary.
Bikeability Fix (bicycle maintenance)
Teaching children the basics of bicycle maintenance to help them maintain their bikes to a safe standard. This is best delivered prior to Bikeability Levels 1, 2 and 3.
Bikeability Parents (adults join Bikeability Level 1 or 2)
Parents and carers are invited to join in the cycle training and complete their own Level 1 or Level 2 Bikeability training. Staff are also encouraged to participate in this event. Delivered after the school day and is linked to pupils undertaking their Bikeability Level 1 or Level 2 training.
Bikeability on Show (pupils demonstrate cycling skills)
Parents and teachers are invited to a presentation and demonstration of the skills that pupils have acquired during their training. Schools may choose to widen the audience to the whole school community. This could be part of a sports day or parents evening.
Bikeability Ride (several mile ride)
Children attend a ride with Instructors along a route over several miles. Typically after school and once children have completed Bikeability Level 2. Bikeability Ride can also be available for older pupils including those undertaking Level 3 training.
