Environmental considerations when working in Newcastle

Works promoters should be aware of the environment in which they plan to work and make any necessary adjustments accordingly. Works around schools should be planned in the first instance during holiday periods but if this is not possible, then extra attention should be paid to signing, lighting and guarding. Other sensitive locations for example, centres that cater for those with disabilities should be consulted about any planned works so accessibility needs can be considered in advance.

If major or standard works are proposed outside of the aforementioned times;

  • Monday to Friday 8am to  6pm
  • Saturday 9am to 1pm
  • Sunday 9am to 1pm
  • Bank Holidays all times

A discussion is required with the Highway Control Assistant in advance as longer notice periods may be required for communication and co-ordination to take place.

In addition, if mechanical plant that could cause excessive noise outside off the above times, please contact the Commercial Team within the Council’s Environmental Health Department on 0191 211 6102 or e-mail psr@newcastle.gov.uk to advise them of your works.

It is accepted that in some instances work during these times are unavoidable;

Consideration should also be given to ensuring dust is kept to a minimum at all times, especially when using cutting tools.
