Great North Road, Gosforth
We have been working on developments to connect the north bound bus route between the Great North Road and Regents Centre and active travel improvements around the High Street. We invite you to have your say on these proposals.
We propose installing new sections of bus lane to connect existing sections together to improve the reliability of buses, new measures to improve cycle routes to the High Street and alongside it; pedestrian safety improvements with new crossings, and some widened footways to help you move around the city.

The proposed changes to the current layout include:
· A new section of north bound bus lane between Graham Park Road and Elmfield Road.
· Installing a new, signalised puffin crossing over the High Street on the stretch between Roseworth Avenue and Graham Park Road.
· Options to close Moorfield to vehicles near its intersection with Moor Road or close Moorfield at the Great North Road junction.
· Closing the junction of West Avenue and High Street to vehicles with an exemption for cycles.
· Introducing a cycle connection between Gosforth Central Park and the High Street along St Nicholas Avenue.
· A widened footway on the west side of High Street between Ivy Road and Woodbine Road.
· A new section of north bound bus lane between the Gosforth Hotel public house and Henry Street.
· A new cycle lane along Christon Road.
· A segregated two-way cycle track on Great North Road between Hollywood Avenue and Christon Road.
The active travel interventions are funded by Active Travel England.

We will use your comments to inform any changes to our proposed plans and we will publish more information online with final plans going to Cabinet later in 2025.
