The deadline for new customers joining the 2018/19 Garden Waste Service was 31 August 2018.
It is now too late to join the exisiting scheme. Collections for exisiting customers have now resumed from 26 February 2019. Please check the calendars you were sent when you joined the scheme for the restart dates for your specific round.
Further information on joining the 2019/20 Garden Waste Service will be made available shortly. WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING PAYMENTS OR DIRECT DEBIT SET UPS FOR NEW OR RENEWING CUSTOMERS AT THE MOMENT.

Report a Missed Garden Waste Collection
Before contacting us to report a missed collection, please ensure:
The correct bin was put out for collection.
The bin was at the kerbside or the designated collection point by 6.30am.
The bin was not too heavy to be lifted by the collection crew.
The correct items were in the bin - no black bags, lose vegetation only.
The waste is not compacted or too squashed down in the bin (so when it tips, waste should fall easily into the truck)
We will not return for bins that have waste stuck in them or waste that does not tip out
Please note, we use an automated system which records when streets are serviced by our collection vehicles. If the system shows your street was serviced on the correct day, bins will be deemed to have been not presented and collected on the next planned collection day.
If you did put the correct bin out, it wasn't overloaded or compacted and was on the kerbside by 6.30am, please contact us the day after your collection was due and we will arrange for your bin to be collected within 3 working days.

What can I put in my brown bin?
When will garden waste be collected?
Check your bin day online. If you have recently joined the scheme we will write to you to confirm your new bin collection dates prior to them starting.
What if I move house within Newcastle - will I have to pay again?
Yes, the scheme now relates to a collection service from a particular property or household. The service is not transferable either within or outside of Newcastle. The payment is for the collection service at the property.
What if I move out of the area?
If you move house, please leave the garden waste bin at the property.
How do you know who has paid for the service?
You will be sent a sticker which you will need to stick to the lid of your bin. Our collection crews will have details of all residents who have paid for the service and will only empty bins with stickers on them.
How do I return an unwanted brown bin?
Arrange online for your brown bin to be removed or phone 0191 278 7878 (ask for 'garden waste').
Can I get assistance moving my bin?
If you already receive assistance to put out your green waste bin, you will automatically receive a assistance with your garden waste bin. If not, find out about the assisted lift service.
Buy soil conditioning compost recycled in Newcastle
Garden waste is taken to our composting facility at Sandhills near Walbottle to be recycled and turned into high quality soil conditioner. You can purchase this soil conditioner by the tonne or in 25kg bags to use in your own garden. Find out more on the Sandhills webpage.
