Notice of Referendum Petition Verification Number

The Proper Officer must publish the number of signatures needed on a petition for a referendum on whether the City Council should change from a Leader and Cabinet system to a Mayor and Cabinet or a Committee system.

This number equals 5% of the local government electors registered in the City Council on 15 February each year.

The number, to be used for verification of any petitions presented to Newcastle upon Tyne City Council, between 1 April 2024 and 31 March 2025 is:

A new number will be published in February 2025. If this new number is less than 9384, then that number will be used between 15 February 2025 and 31 March 2025.
