Continuous professional developed (CPD) and property licencing

If you are a property licence holder you are required to complete five hours Continuous professional developed (CPD) each year.

There are lots of ways a licence holder can choose to do this, but Newcastle City Council hosts a series of events to help make this easier.

You can find out about upcoming at events at privaterentedservice.co.uk/landlord/events

If you are a member of the NRLA they host regular local landlord forums across the county, contact your local NRLA rep for details.  The NRLA also run several landlord training events including e classrooms and e learning options.

You may also want to investigate other local landlord groups and forums that are taking place near you.  Landlord forums are a great way to keep up to date and network.

In addition, many areas have independent landlord forums ran by Local Authorities or Local Landlord groups.  These events provide excellent opportunities to keep up to date with legislation, share best practise and network.

FAQs

Who should attend the events?

In order to meet the CPD requirements the person attending the event must be the licence holder, although other partners may wish to attend as well.

If the licence holder is an organisation the attendee must be the most appropriate person.

How can I provide I have gained by 5 hours?

Many events will provide a certificate of attendance or proof of CPD, ask the event organiser to provide this.

If the event doesn’t provide this, make a note of the name of the event and organiser along with the date, time

Do I need to complete 5 consecutive hours?

No, you can do the hours in whatever format suits you best.

What types of training and events are acceptable?

Landlord training, local and national landlord forums and landlord conferences are acceptable.  If you do not live in Newcastle, contact your local council to ask if they hold landlord events that you can attend.

You can access training remotely, by either trainer led e learning or e classroom (assed).

Although it’s a great way to keep up to date you cannot count watching videos or reading as part of your CPD.

England based landlord events will be acceptable. Event with a focus on Wales or Scotland would not be suitable as the rules differ.
