Developer Guidance

Developer Guidance

It is important that developers are encouraged to invest in Newcastle - development brings investment into the local economy, can improve the local environment and make the City a more attractive place to live, work and visit.

New development often necessitates significant changes to the highway network and it is important that developers are made aware of the processes and obligations required to complete these changes at the earliest opportunity.

A suite of four documents has been produced to further aid developers and key stakeholders as part of the development process.  Following a consultation period in 2015, four documents were approved by Cabinet on 25 November 2015. Supporting Development in Newcastle Developer Guidance Cabinet Report 25 November 2015 (pdf 113KB)

The updated Transport Developer Guidance was approved for consultation under a delegated decision in January 2022.  The report can be found here.

The guidance aims to ensure planning applications are submitted with the correct supporting information and to improve highway, transportation and accessibility outcomes arising from new development.

A copy of the guidance can be found here: https://democracy.newcastle.gov.uk/documents/s178231/Appendix%201.pdf

The document is currently under review as part of an update of guidance notes to be published in 2024.
