What we do

How we help private landlords

The support we provide to landlords and letting agents includes our Tenant Finder Service, Empty Homes grants to help bring properties up to the Newcastle Accreditation Scheme standards.  We offer a programme of online and face to face training designed for landlords and our free professional advice service can help you manage your lettings business.  We also have an online landlord handbook with useful information about managing a property and maintaining professional and legal standards.

How we help private tenants

For tenants  we offer support though in finding and accessing safe and affordable homes through our Home Finder Service and Rent Deposit Scheme.  Our advice service can tenants understand their rights and responsibilities.   We also have an online tenant handbook  with useful information about managing your tenancy and videos to guide you when choosing a home.  If you have a complaint or a query about how a landlord is managing a tenancy you can let us know by making a report online.

Newcastle Housing Accreditation Scheme

The Newcastle Housing Accreditation Scheme is a voluntary scheme that recognizes landlords who offer safe, decent, well managed homes.  All accredited properties must meet our high standards which have been set to help improve housing in the private rented sector for the benefit of tenants and landlords.

Rent Deposit Scheme

There are a lot of costs associated with moving into a new home and one of the biggest is the deposit.  If you found a place to live but haven’t got enough money for the deposit our Rent Deposit Scheme may be able to help. If you qualify for our Rent Deposit Scheme we can help by providing a no cash deposit for suitable private rented property in Newcastle.  Newcastle City Council can provide private landlords with a written guarantee in place of a deposit.  The guarantee lasts for up to 12 months and gives tenants time to save a cash deposit to give to the landlord.  We do not pay cash to you or the landlord but if something goes wrong with the tenancy the landlord can claim against the guarantee.

Home Finder Service

Landlords who have Accredited and affordable properties can promote their properties via our scheme.  The scheme is free to landlords and tenants can feel secure that the properties they are viewing are Accredited and managed by professional landlords.
