Contractor licences

Section 50 licence

A licence is required if you intend to place or retain apparatus in the highway. If you need to install pipe work, lay a sewer or connections your application should be submitted a month in advance of the works for the licence to be processed and granted. Tower cranes licence

You will need a licence if you propose to erect a crane that will oversail the public highway and/or any other land owned by Newcastle City Council. Applications will generally take a month to be processed, assuming a road closure is not required. Further information and our application form can be found on our Tower Cranes Licence page.

 

Mobile cranes licence

You will need a permit if you intend to use a mobile crane on any part of the adopted highway. Applications will take a month to be processed assuming a road closure is not required. Further information and our application form can be found on our Mobile Cranes Licence page.

 

MEWP - Mobile elevated work platform ('cherry picker') licence

A licence is required for the use of a mechanical device, provide a temporary access to a building or structure from the adopted highway. Licences are not transferable or refundable and your application will need to be submitted a week in advance of your work. Road opening notice

If you intend to work on the highway you will need a road opening notice. Further information and our application form can be found on our Road Opening Notice page.

 

Temporary traffic signals application

If you need to place temporary traffic lights on the highway and you are not a statutory undertaker then you will need to apply to us using our online form which can be found on our Temporary Traffic Signals Page. Should your works require temporary traffic signals to be installed in a emergency situation then you should make contact asap with our traffic signal team, details can be found on our Temporary Traffic Signals page.  If out of office hours please phone 0191 2787878 for Civic Centre Security.
