School Training and Information

We encourage schools to promote cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable travel in order to improve the health and well-being of children and young people. School Travel Plans are produced through the national schools awards scheme Modeshift STARS.  The awards have been established to recognise schools that have demonstrated excellence active and sustainable travel.

Assemblies and individual lessons are delivered to schools and classes by the Road Safety Team as required. Typical sessions include national campaigns such as 'Be Safe Be Seen' and 'Walk to School Week'.

Promotion of transport initiatives such as Bikeability are supported by the Road Safety Team. This extends to the whole school community including: provision of information to be sent to households; training for pupils; and attendance at parents’ evenings.

There are a number of School Crossing Patrol Officers operating at various locations to assist safer crossing. We can help schools with the necessary assessments to determine whether a School Crossing Patrol would be justified and support them through providing a member of staff once external funding has been secured.

Initiatives are age related so we provide different road safety school training programmes. To find out more, please click here.

If there are specific needs or a bespoke training requirement we will discuss this on an individual basis.
